STL346: Ramon’s Rules for Jig Making
Mike and Amanda chat with Ramon Valdez about belt sanders, magnets, and making jigs.Rex:
Ramon how did you get started?
John:
How do the furniture and domino dock sides of the business compare? Do you wish you could do more furniture? More tools?
Both docks are available for purchase on ramonvaldezfinefurniture.com.
Jeremy:
Tell us about physical training activities as it relates to woodworking sustainability and injury prevention. Also given your fascination with magnets, do you have any tips on inexpensive sourcing and sizing them appropriately for the application?
Ramon uses www.kjmagnetics.com to source all of his magnets.

Magnetic pencil holders can be found on lleevalley.com
Matcha:
With someone so varied in design and inspiration in their work, how does Ramon narrow down what style/themes to integrate into a cohesive piece?
Ganymedesearat (From Discord) :
With this fast-paced world we live in of more content, more engagement, etc I’m curious if you ever make time to reflect on some of your first videos or pieces you’ve made? If so, have you rediscovered any old ideas you’d forgotten or maybe just gained an appreciation for your own progress in the craft
Ben:
What are the elements Ramon looks for when coming up with marquetry subject matter?
Also… Ramon… is making jigs part of the fun of woodworking or most of the fun of woodworking?

Asked guy to introduce himself and he talked for 14 minutes striaght....yeesh
I have to admit, from my results-oriented PoV, I find these Shop Talks a waste of resources. They should be more oriented toward 'how to' videos, with video of the action of "how to" and add value by adding a link to a plan, or something. This is just talk, and they are no more than an audio only Podcasts, and then one of the less dynamic ones for woodworking at that...
It's literally a podcast. If you aren't looking for a podcast that's fine... don't watch/listen to the podcast.
