Pennsylvania Spice Box
This piece uses through dovetails for the case, dovetails and half-dovetails for the drawers, half-blind dovetails for the feet, and mortise-and-tenon joinery for the doors. All joinery was done with hand tools.
Drawers are veneered with walnut burl, except central drawer for which I used Caucasian walnut. For drawers bottoms and door’s front/back I used birdseye maple veneer. Veneering was done with traditional method with hot hide glue and hammer.
The hand-cut inlay on the doors is laid out with compass geometry, filled with black dyed maple.
Drawers are finished with oil, body was finished with French polish.
Dimensions: L35 x H50 x W30 centimeters.
